Join us in Belize for the sail to Guatemala. If offshore sailing is not for you, or your schedule, join the mission in Guatemala by plane! We will mainly be in the Rio Dulce, Izabal area which is home to our primary mission, Casa Agua Azul, a safe house for children. You will become part of the service team working at the children's home while living aboard the vessel.
Sailing up the Rio Dulce is a phenomenal experience. Resting at the mouth of the river is the port town of Livingston which is home to the Garifuna people. Livingston is tucked away on Guatemala’s small Caribbean coast between Belize and Honduras, a five day sail from the Florida Keys. The Rio Dulce connects the Caribbean Sea to Lake Izabal, Guatemala’s largest lake 22 miles inland. On the shore of Lake Izabal is Casa Agua Azul in the small indigenous village of Ensenada.
Traveling up the river the sound of the jungle becomes a symphony to the ears with echoes across the vast shear canyon walls extending some 300 feet. This is the same area the filming for "New Adventures of Tarzan" back in 1935 took place. The beauty of the Rio Dulce is vast. On the river bank you will find hot springs bubbling up, generated from volcanic activity and caves on the hill side. Continuing up the river, the expanse broadens into the Golfete, where the eco project of Tenant Maya is located offering canopy zip line tours.
Access to many of the villages we pass by is only by water. Small tributaries travel deeper into the lush vegetation of the Guatemala jungle, hiding more villages from site. Guatemala is a never ending wonder from the mountains to the shore!
Serving at Casa Agua Azul is to partake in the transformation of the lives of abandoned and abused children.
Through love and kindness a future filled with hope is being built.
The storms of their lives are being replaced with healing, health, education and family.
When time permits a trip to Casa Ahicam in Poptún, Petén, Guatemala is sure to melt your heart!
As a team we may also join the other projects with other organizations in and outside the region.
Create your own path and breathe in the sounds and sights of intense untouched beauty.
Journey through rushing rivers and waterfalls, adventure to the Jaguar caves and possibly camp in the heart of the jungle!
Explore deeper into the wilderness to discover the many hidden treasures, including her people.
Hot springs on the banks of the Rio Dulce, a time to relax, rejuvenate and do some cave exploration.
Off the beaten track, travel down a small tributary to the remote beautiful, indigenous village where Titus International is bringing higher education to empower the people.
Located between Lake Izabal and the headwaters of the Rio Dulce and at one time was a ferry crossing. Today it is a marina district and a bustling area of commerce, as the highway is a main through way.
The historic Spanish colonial fort stands at the entrance to Lake Izabal and at one time guarded the once busy trade area from the Caribbean pirates. Today it is a popular destination to explore and enjoy.
The entrance to the Rio Dulce, a great place to shop for custom, locally made goods and home of the Garifuna people. Livingston offers beaches to explore and Seven Alters, a small river passing over a series of water falls tucked away in the jungle on the coast of the Caribbean Sea just outside of town.
Once the capital to Guatemala, this city is the best preserved Spanish colonial city in Central America. The city is filled with history and is home to baroque La Merced church, one of the only colonial churches to withstand earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Explore history and enjoy a hike on one of the surrounding volcanoes for a spectacular view.
We are at war with all things that cause us or others to stumble, or not live the full, abundant, loving lives God calls us to live.
